Ok, this has nothing to do with my crush on my guitar teacher, but with guitar in general.

When you're learning a song from just chords, do you learn the chords, then the melody, and then just stick a few notes from the chords into the melody where they fit? or something else?

I'm working on "And I love her" for my lesson and I don't really know how to combine my chords and my solo stuff to make it one more unified song.

Something like that. It helps to learn the basic scales as well, this will help you construct a melody that fits on top of the chords. I also recommend to print out a note chart so you can see where all of the notes seat on the fret board, then you can pick the right notes when you play the lead.

Back when I played guitar more, I did almost everything by ear. Occasionally I would check out tabs and sometimes chords when I was trying to compose my own melodies.

Damnit.. now I am starting to want to play again.
