    Favourite Quotations.

bearing in mind that quite a lot of us have quotes in our 'signatures', i thought i'd start a thread about them. i find loads that i love especially in songs. but there's one in particular that i posted in another thread and thought you'd all like to hear it.
    post your own

'to realize the value of ONE YEAR
ask a student who failed a grade

to realize the value of ONE MONTH
ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby

to realize the value of ONE WEEK
ask an editor of a weekly newspaper

to realize the value of ONE DAY
ask a person who's in the final stages of cancer

to realize the value of ONE HOUR
ask the lovers who are waiting to meet

to realize the value of ONE MINUTE
ask a person who just missed the train

to realize the value of ONE SECOND
ask the family of someone involved in a car crash

to realize the value of ONE MILLISECOND
ask a person who won a silver medal in the Olympics

    yesterday is history
    tomorrow is a mystery
    today is a gift
that's why it's called the present.'
They called us a dead generation,
They told us that we wouldn't survive
They left us alone in the maelstrom
As you can see we're all clearly alive.

"I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul." - I heard it from DM

You fear your own anger, the drive to do great and terrible things."

You fear your own anger, the drive to do great and terrible things."

Stultum est timere quod vitare non potes
I will do my best to reply with an educated, humble and honest answer. Ultimately, it is up to you whether you want to listen to my advice or ignore it completely. Sometimes, my advice may be wrong; occasionally, it will be right. Regardless, I want to do my best to give people answers they are seeking.

    Full version.

    "Invictus".

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
    For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
    Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
    blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
    A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
    Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
    Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

We are born sensitive and from our birth onwards we are affected in various ways by our environment. As soon as we become conscious of our sensations we tend to seek or shun the things that cause them, at first because they are pleasant or unpleasant, then because they suit us or not, and at last because of judgments formed by means of the ideas of happiness and goodness which reason gives us. These tendencies gain strength and permanence with the growth of reason, but hindered by our habits they are more or less warped by our prejudices.
