I can't believe ANYONE would tell this kind of lie...

So one of the girls I've been dating was dating a guy very recently before me and her started to hook up. I actually think the ex BF is pretty cool, as we've been hanging out now and then. Anyway, cutting to the chase...

He mentioned something about them being "in love." I didn't realize they were that close, so it was interesting, but not a big deal at all. She never mentioned that they were very serious, so I thought maybe she was having a hard time recovering or something to that affect.

Well later it came up in conversation with me and this girl, when I asked why they had split up. She said that he was too "clingy" and she had to break it off, because she felt smothered. I was shocked to hear what she would say next...

She said that she in fact NEVER loved him at all. Not only that, but she told him she loved him, so that he would feel a sort of validation. She claims to have lied about a lot of things for his benefit.

Either she's lying to me, or she's told a HUGE lie to him.

Maybe it's a girl thing. Maybe its a psycho girl thing. Thoughts?
