'fair play!' what does that mean?!

There is a guy i like a lot. We were friends for a bit, then i wanted sth more, he refused, then i kissed another guy he become really jelaous and left without saying goodbye. But because i like him a lot i've been appologising him for everything for a week or so and it seems like its so much better now. But the thing i do not understand is one of his texts!
I was at the party yesterday and wanted to call him and ask where he is. He didnt respond and then went with a text that his battery is v low, so he cannot answer the phone and he needs to keep it for texts. So i replied:
"are you excepting any important txts? hehe u ll understand one day that even goverment's texts will not be that important as my call...jokin" (sorry, but i was pretty drunk at that time)
and he answered with something i dont really get!
"fair play! not really but just always good 2 have a little bat left..."
i mean i do understand the second part which is reply to my question but this "fair play" issue?????

Maybe his 'fair play' was in reply to your comment about your call being important. For example, you jokingly said that your call would be more important than a government text, in reply he said 'fair play' which he could basically be saying 'Thats a good point, your call could be important'
