Your soul is nothing but a fine sponge capable of soaking up the chemical lovechild of your past experiences and current environment.
Depending on how you grew your sponge, it will react differently to the various environmental stimuli. Some stimuli will create chemicals that feed your sponge. This makes it grow. Some will make chemicals that hurt your sponge. This makes your sponge shrink.
Sometimes your sponge gets so used to being big that when you are unable to keep giving it the chemicals it needs to remain in this state it feels like it is dying.
But your sponge isn't dying, it's simply angry that it has to find another food source. The best thing to do is to tell your sponge "Hey, sponge, relax man, alright? It's all just drugs. We'll find some more chemicals soon enough. Here, feed on this sweet BBC documentary for awhile, 'right?"
There are all sorts of absurd notions one can get about why your sponge feels like it's dying. Like "OH MY GOD I HAD THE BEST SPONGE-FOOD EVER AND NOW IT'S GOOOOONE!" But really, it's up to you to realize that sponge-food is everywhere, and you have been newly freed by the OverMindSpongeKarmaWheel in order to find some that is even more delicious. So there you have it. The task at hand is yours to command.
Feed your sponge.
