Gifts for a man

I've been seeing this man (in his 40s) off and on for maybe 7 or 8 months... it's definitely not serious, but I like him and want to get him something for Christmas (nothing sentimental or romantic, but hopefully thoughtful). The thing is, when you get older, you don't NEED anything, and hardly ever even WANT anything, because when you do, you just go buy it yourself.

I'm not a very good gift-chooser. Any suggestions?

P.S. - he doesn't need viagra, so you long-timers can skip the jokes. And no, I will not be dressing up in sexy nurse costumes or like santa's slutty wife. lol

Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

I've personally taken to buying food for people that have everything. Gourmet sauces seem to go down with guys. Just occurred to me that might be coz us aussies have a summer christmas and marinades are good for bbqs.

Ummmm does hours job require her wear a tie? Does he have a tie clip? Could he use another one?

My gift giving theory, you need to know 3 favourites of the person you are buying for and you'll do well.

Do you know the types of things he likes? Books, movies, music, games? Do you know if he has any hobbies?

Food. Guys of all ages have to eat. But what kind of food does he like? Does he like spicy sauces? Get him a gift assortment of hot sauces. What about a gift card to his favorite restaurant? What about a back rub? Foot massage? You can give him one or get him a gift card for one.

Does he like to drink? I've seen gift assortments of various types of daquiri mixes. Does he like coffee? I've also seen gift assortments of coffee syrups.

Does he like funny gifts? Search Amazon.com for "white elephant" gifts. I saw an Easter Island kleenex box where the kleenex comes out if its nose.

Check out gig tickets for comedians if there are any shows nearby in the next few months, it makes a cool date as well if you go with him.

If he's quite active get him a voucher for paintballing, my gf got me one for my birthday for me and 3 friends, it was a great laugh!

Likewise experience days are great, such as rally driving, drifting, supercar experience.

If you have an indoor climbing centre they do taster sessions, its something you can do together and is a lot of fun.

We need to know what he likes, what his interests are. How about tickets to a music concert of his favourite artist if possible? What is your budget? Sometimes the best presents are not that expensive. Last Xmas I asked my two daughters for a Swiss Army knife. It was one of the best presents I've ever had - I use it every single day.

I usually gift alcohol to men. Perfume would be #2 on my list. It's also fun to take them shopping for new clothing.

Swiss army knife? I think I love this idea! He loves knives for some odd reason (carving knives, etc... he must have 50 of them). I looked these up on Amazon, and this is what I found: http://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Champ-Pocket-Knife/dp/B0007QCP3M/ref=sr_1_18?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1323973932&sr=1-18#productPromotions

Is this the kind of thing a man usually already owns? I don't think I've ever seen him with one. Would the majority of men would want to have one? Is this a nice one?

Maybe I could get him this, a bottle of booze, and a CD he mentioned wanting...

    Thanks for all your suggestions!

pay attention to somthing hes been wanting, go buy it. i dont consider booze a gift...its as bad as a gift card. if you really run low on ideas...take him out for a nice meal and let him pick somthing out in a store.

He wouldn't ever pick something out for himself if he knew I was buying, and he won't let me pay for dinners out (he's very traditional this way, and he finds it emasculating).

I ordered the knife, but am rethinking the booze. I like him better when he's sober. I think I will buy him some cologne I like and give him the knife.
