It's really men who attract women

I was thinking about beauty and attractiveness and figured there's way too much emphasis on WOMEN being attractive. Some one even said more women are bisexual because everyone naturally has a 'female attraction gene'...which is total psuedo-science. Male beauty is still marginalized imho, and kind of partly due to homophobia. Why is it weird for a man to call another man 'sexy' but not a woman to? Anyway, that's another topic altogether...

In nature, it is always the MALE who has to work to attract the mate. Now it is the male who goes out for females, so they have to be brightly coloured and stand out. Girls trying to stand out seems a bit senseless because many men just be looking to score. I think women's liberation and all that has actually put has back closer to our natural, primitive state, as more men realise it is more important for them to attract the girl, than just to be able to pick the girl of their dreams.

I think in today's society there is too much emphasis on female beauty which almost teases alot of men in a way and put more pressure on women. I was thinking how women have only started wearing makeup, more jewellry than men, and dressing up more, and how that is a Western invention of the post Industrial revolution era. This makes them kind of 'dolls' and sex objects, while men are like the 'consumers.' So much so that some women also believe females are somehow more beautiful than males and that is a universal fact. Women only wearing makeup is if anything an aberration from the rule.

As the years go by society has made women more and more sexy - even go back 50 years ago women seemed much 'plainer.' We've long been aware of how much women have been made 'sex objects' (in a way they always have been) but I'm really sick of how alot of women derive all their self esteem from being attractive. Men actually don't care as much about looks as some women believe - often women are the ones who are pickier. They too have been conditioned by society to be picky. I too accept this at face value but when I think a bit deeper I find this whole attitude rather strange.

It is women who attract men though

Women are judged foremost on their appearance by men than anything else. It's the first deal breaker if it's not there, once this is satisfied then everything else comes into play. There are of course, guys who are less fussy with how the woman looks, but this is due to other reasons. For example, them being shy or not very social thus having less choices. I honestly don't know any guy who given a choice would choose an unattractive woman over an attractive one. She'd have to have an extremely amazing personality in order to pull that off.

Guys are definitely judged on a completely different level by women. Although looks help, no girl (that I know) is going to approach a great looking guy standing by himself in the bar. That's because men are judged on their confidence, directness and ability to generate fun and excitement. Looks help, but if you don't have the above then you will be a great looking lonely guy drinking by himself in the bar.

Its kind of a complex question you posed, but I'll give you my spin on it.

Sexy is a term that women use more openly with each other because of western tradition and history in general. The male is generally viewed as the head of the house hold and the provider. The world is harder on men for failure than it is for women in this thought pattern. Males have a certain cultural level of standard to maintain and human nature is driven by greed; the need to have more than the next guy. This is what drives the competition between men and why they chase rather than receive.

Along the lines what what I just said, a male must look strong in others eye's to maintain his spot in the social pyramid. Complimenting the way another man looks would not only compromise your dominance, but could also be perceived as a potential deviation from traditional marriage or male/female union.

As for women going from the 50's "plain" to the 90 "sexy', well that was just breaking down cultural barriers. There was a time when a women showing her ankles was the equivalent of being topless today. Women pushed to be more comfortable in themselves and slowly we accepted more and more. Elvis was controversial for swinging his hips, a lot of more conservative people did not approve of it. In the 80's and 90's pornography showed up and exploded into the industry it is today.

Its a never ending process of change.

I agree looks still aren't as important in men, but I mean, it's harder for a fellow to woo a gal who's not already into her than the other way around. Guys may notice girls, but in the end the guy has to make the girl decide and seal the deal.

Well, he's not going to get a mate by looking petty. A guy has to be a good prospect for being a solid provider to attract a quality woman because we don't sit on nests for a few weeks and then we're done; our young are completely helpless for many years, so pretty men are actually a turn OFF in some ways, as they might be more likely to flutter off elsewhere just when we need them to be at the front of the cave, fending off the wild dogs.

The women of the 50s were plainer? Are you kidding?

    Marilyn Monroe
    Elizabeth Taylor
    Grace Kelly
    Audrey Hepburn
    Brigette Bardot
    Natalie Wood

^^ Those women were not plain.

Women have been wearing makeup to attract males since before Cleopatra popularized eye liner.

Also, women are allowed to sexualize other women because males like it. And yes, in general we are prettier than boys. AND we get boobies.

Gotta agree with Vash. Women in the 50s were so much more glamorous! Today "glamor" seems to be the balance between wearing as little fabric as possible while still fooling people into thinking it's classy.

Attraction goes both ways just like a relationship is a two way street.

Maybe you should think about sucking some cock - no, really.

Or maybe a realdoll. I don't think they care about their appearance much either. Well, they wouldn't mind being seen with you anyway.
