What is everybody's attitudes to/opinions of anal sex?

Me and my girlfriend had it last night. We actually had really good normal sex about 11pm and then went and had a shower and came back to bed. Then at about 2am we half-awake started caressing each other, pulling off each other's clothes, and before I know it we're away. I don't even know who initiated it. It felt good, but strange.

I've never had anal sex before and I've been much interested in it either. It wasn't on my "to do before I die" list or anything.

I think my girl enjoyed it, she kind of breathed "that was good!" afterwards. And it was.

Today I can't help but feel a bit weird about it though.
