    Slightly Confused about Birth Control

    Hi,

I finally told my mom I had irregular periods, and she said that in a month or two we'd go to the doctor to get meds to make my period regular. Is she talking about birth control, or are their any other medications that make your periods regular?

    Thanks!

I don't know. It depends on whether your FSH an LH hormone levels are normal. If they are out of whack, they might give you a single dose of progesterone to kick start your periods, or they might stick you on the pill. How old are you, and how long have you been menstruating? Also, do you know your BMI?

You are a little on the underweight side... this could affect your menstrual cycle.

Are you sexually active? If not, I personally would try to avoid birth control pills (side effects), but your physician will be abe to help you more with that.

When you say you are irregular, do you mean that it just hasn't been coming every 28 days? Because some people have slower cycles, and it isn't unusual for a girl your age to have periods every 6 weeks, for example, instead of every 4.

Also, are you an athlete? They commonly have irregular cycles.

There are a few other medications they use but low dosage birth control pills may be what she is talking about. Also your Gynocologist may run a few lab work ups and a few other tests to make sure nothing physiological inside of you is at the root of your dysmennorhea.

I'd be surpirsed if you knew it (unless you are employed in the medical field).

Anyway, the term you are looking for is metrorrhagia.

    Amennorhea means NO period.
