What is your favorite animal

Mine is a dog. I love dogs. The only thing, living or nonliving, that I miss from home in the slightest is my dog (because I can call my family).

What animals do you guys like? In particular, I like labradors, german shephards, and beagles. I have a yellow lab, he's 10, he's my best buddy.

horses. specifically arabs. They are so special not simply because they're beautiful looking- but because of their behaviour and history. The desert nomads who basically domesticated (1500 B.C.) and bred them, the Bedouin, treated them as family members, kept the bloodlines of their heard in their heads, and prized loyalty, gentleness, speed and endurance. They considered purity so important that once a mare had been bred by an unworthy stallion, she was considered contaminated after that. This may not be genetically correct but heck they didn't have genetics back then.

modern attempts to selectively breed animals are often flawed. That's why many dog breeds have specific genetic flaws like Dalmatians are often deaf and German Shepherds have hip problems. Not so with arabs; for hundreds and hundreds of years, they were selectively bred by the Bedouin, but *also* by the natural selection of living in a hard evironment.

Bengal cats run a close second, but I've never interacted with one in real life so I can't attest to their temperament, but they do look STUNNING. random trivia: I've heard George Clooney owns one.

I was such an animal lover as a kid- not that I stopped, but I don't have time to watch nature documentaries all day anymore. Especially before puberty I used to think humans are just so.. awkward looking, really, when you think about it. We're weak, slow, furless, our ears are just WEIRD looking, etc., nothing like the streamlined elegance of most animals.

elephants are pretty weird too though ^.^

Even though there are a lot of really cool animals, I still like dogs the most. They are so easy to get along with and easy to make friends with, I wish it was that easy with people.

At my sisters college they have a "Rent a dog" program thing where you can borrow a dog to take on a walk for an hour or something. I need to see if they have that here.
