If someone ignores you and avoids you like the plaque and is only nice to you when you speak you'd assume your in the friend zone and let it be right? So you back off and leave them alone. But then you notice they are looking at you when your back is turned etc. So weird

looking at you when your back is turned means you have eyes in the back of your head. It doesn't mean he likes you for more then being polite. If you talk to him first, it would be rude of him not to reply. If he avoids you like the plague... I'd say he doesn't even want you as a friend, actually.

Happened to me too over 3 yrs- made me fall for him bec when we did speak it was so obvious he liked me. I confessed my feelings and he rejected me in a nice manner- still confused as it is border lining rejection. He's married and I am as well. So maybe this guy really likes you- he's really shy or in a committed relationship and he knows nothing good can happen if you 2 get involved.
