    Car Insurance Premium Increased!

My insurance just jumped over 100 dollars just because of a paint scratch.

F*ck Progressive man, 1 baby accident and they jump my premium to a ridiculous degree. Even if another company offers a comparable rate, I'm gonna switch just to spite them.

From 285 for 6 months, to 405 for 6 months, (liability only with high deductibles).

That's strange. After I totaled my bike this summer I figured I would be paying an obscene amount to ride again.

With one accident and one ticket, my rates haven't even gone up yet. My insurance agent said I was looking at a 10% hike for 3 years, which is nothing really.

how much was the charge for the paint job? i would've considered paying for it out of pocket than having it sit on my record for 3 years.

That's the other thing, for whatever reason, it was a 1300 dollar fix!

    1300 dollars??

    For a scratch?

I think she got to rent a car and everything that day, it's like not only am I in actuality footing the bill, it's like they tried to make it as expensive as possible.

    F*ck them, man.

This is one of the nasty sides of insurance. They may very well have replaced the whole piece you dinged because the insurance company is required to return the vehicle to pre-incident condition.

    Just to give you an idea;

When I waded up my Kawasaki this summer, I took it in to the dealership to have the damage assessed. I got the quote back and the bike was totaled. They valued the bike at a little over $6000, but the cost to repair it was $8259 WITH NO DAMAGE TO THE POWER TRAIN.

Since it was required to be put back together with factory parts, the price to fix it was probably triple what I could have done it for. 8 Pieces of damaged plastics added up to almost $4000.

Shit's more expensive than one would think.

They didn't replace it, that's just it, because I took a look afterwards, and if you look close, you can still see where it was scratched, they probably just buffed and repainted it.

    Insurance is gay.

Well in that case, there's just one giant douche bag somewhere in the chain of repair.

Fras, I really think you should head up one of the important watchdog groups around this country somewhere. You have my vote to be on board the AMA group.

There's a reason why I was only paying 285 per 6 months before.

I didn't just get lucky for the entire 5 years I've been driving.

It was a tight driveway, not the big open twin driveways some houses share in front of their garage, it's essentially an alley between two houses that 5 people manage to stack their cars in. So you have cars on one side, and a house on the other.

Couple that with the fact you don't reverse with your foot on the brake driving a stick shift, but rather the gas and clutch, I tried to correct my angle to keep my back end from scraping her car, but over-corrected and brought my sidemirror against her CR-V.

well.... why the hell would you call your insurance company in the first place??

ok... here's what i would've done. yes, tell your neighbor that you scratched her car and then pay for it out of your own pockets.... depending on my big a scratch you actually made, it won't cost more than 500 for a huge one.

that way you will have fixed her car and left your car as is, but your insurance won't ever go up...
