    Interracial dating

I'm Chinese (although very westernized... can't really speak chinese that well, no read/write). I'm really into caucasian girls, since i grew up watching american TV, with the "blonde hair blue eye" sense of "beauty" drilled in me. I have almost 0 attraction for asian girls, dunno why.

Well I dated a scottish girl recently, and i had this sense of "awkwardness" when we went out by ourselves on dates, movies and whatnot... I just felt, weird.. its like other people were looking at us or something. And I also had this weird feeling that her dad (100% scottish) wouldn't like me too much cause he's all about the scottish heritage. We've talked about our heritages. She seems really into the whole scottish thing, and here I am, disconnected with all chinese culture, and only have the american one.

We go to the same school in which there are several interracial couples openly dating (holding hands/kissing).

I don't know why i feel this way. Its just that alot of my friends are really abnoxious about race, and they constantly make racist jokes. (They themselves only hang out with people of their race, I'm all over the place). And most Asian/white couples are white man, asian woman...

Has anyone else gone thru this kind of crap? (ya, i hate it). Its like i Know i shouldn't feel this shallow about skin colour.. but its just the whole societal/culture thing. I really want to start a relationship with this girl, or if not, other white girls in the future. (Please don't flame me for being racially oriented... its just my upbringing, and who i am, i guess)

just dont think about it. dont think about what other people may say. cos it wont have an end! it's just between you and that girl that matters. Yeah...i've seen some asian/caucassian couples...even with the guy being asian. they're fine. actually...why dont u feel proud of it anyway? an asian guy dating a caucassian girl. hey man...be proud! that girl seemed to like you, so dont worry...

about her parents...dont think about it too, in the future, if u r really serious about her, then u can make some effort to get her parents'heart. show them how responsible and good person you are. i dont think that girl is "fanatic" about scottish herritage tho...maybe she just talked about it for the sake of talking. cos you guys havent known each other for long, have u? maybe she's just making conversation.

The only one who can destroy this chance of u dating that girl, is most probably be u. when u r so selfconscious that people will think bad, or look at u in a different way when they see u together, u will automatically act rather weird. and this is the reason why the girl may drawback later on. just be comfortable in ur own skin, everything will be allright. good luck

oh yeah...one more thing...why dont u think that other people MAY admire u? like...wooowww...this guy can date a caucassian girl! he must be someone special...cos...sometimes, i do too!!! when i see asian/caucassian couple, i admire them, cos they're not racist i guess...and it's lovely to see that the world can be NOT racist. and love can happen to anyone, regardless of what herritage you are. it's beautiful so...dont be dispair!

Ha, silly gook. I kid. I'm Chinese, and I'm a guy. I too am not into traditional Chinese culture, I was adopted, both my parents are white, and lived here all my life. I don't speak, read, write chinese, nor do I have a chinese name.

I've never even really thought of myself as Asian and never dated an Asian girl (well once in HS, but that doesnt count)

All my relationships have been with white girls, even married one. I've never felt uneasy or anything.

I'm white, and I'm a guy. I too should have been asian instead of white, lol.

I'm serious tho, I am more asian that white. lets see here. 6 out of 10 friends I have are asian. I drive a souped up civic. I program and work with computers for a ilving. I can count and write some in japanese. And I have peoples names like "Tsutomu Shimamoura" and "Tachaherio Yasotoko"in my cell phone address book. LOL.

But to answer your question, I don't see any problem with it. Sarah, one of my best freinds, and soon to be girlfriend (if all goes well) is Asian. Just don't think too much about what other people may think. I have a ton of friends that are white chicks going out with hispanics, blacks, or asians. It's perfectly natural.

It sounds like you live in a small world. Maybe when you go to college you'll have an opportunity to meet better friends.

All kids get laughed at in school for one thing or another, and all kids are different.

Kids are teased for being too fat, too thin, brown-haired or blonde, freckles, acne, too light-skinned, too dark-skinned, too smart, too dumb, nerdy clothes, slutty clothes, being Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, being pushy, being shy... the list goes on and on.

Unless you are living in a redneck community where physical safety might realistically be an issue, I say who gives a sh*t what people say? If you DO live in a redneck community, then maybe you want to wait until you can get out of there for college.

Anyway, you aren't talking about having kids right now, anyway, are you?

Oh, you mean like between humans and Extra-Terrestrial aliens? Yes, I agree that can be very damaging for a young mind. Especially if the aliens are anything like the ones from Alien Ressurection, with all that nasty acid instead of blood inside their veins. That can be just downright scary. I too think that dating should only be restricted to humans and humans

There's always going to be ignorant, racist losers that are going to frown on persons having relationships outside their culture, but that's their problem not yours.

I went through it, having dated an east indian guy for 3 1/2 yrs, and it was mostly from his community. I got stared at constantly, I heard comments (I managed to pick up a little Punjabi and figured out what they were saying). People assumed he was dating me just so he could have a white gf to 'have fun with' until he decided to get married. Insulting, sure. But I just reminded myself that they were the small minded ones. In time, it becomes less of an issue. I find it ridiculous that it's still an issue at ALL.

Sorry to be slightly off-topic but this brings up an interesting subject that I've wondered about lately. Rednecks.

Ten months ago I moved to Lower Alabama, redneck central. Everywhere I go around here I see a lot of inter-racial couples, mostly white girls (generally good looking) with black guys. Please understand that I have NO problem with that at all, but apparently no one else does either down here. Suprising. You would think being in the deep South it would be uncomfortable for them, but it doesn't seem to be.

Weird part is, when I lived in Los Angeles my ex and I were friends with an inter-racial couple (she was white, he was black) EVERY time we'd go out to dinner, or in one case the four of us went away for the weekend, we'd get these evil stares and dirty looks. And this generally occured in the so-called best parts of L.A.

Along the same lines, I've always worn my hair long, I come from a music business background and it's just my style. A few nights before I flew in here I happened to catch the movie 'Easy Rider' on tv. Got to thinking that 'wow, those rednecks are gonna shoot me because of my hair.' Had it all cut off the next day. Get down here, every fourth guy I see has shoulder-length or longer hair and nobody give's a s**t. All that's cool, maybe times have changed for the better, but it's not what you might think.

Rednecks. A weird breed, go figure...
