How do I tell a girl that I like her without freaking her out

Hi, I am new here and I hope this is the correct section for me to post in. Mods can move this if its in the wrong place.

Ok, I am planning to confess to a girl on Valentine's day (which is tomorrow) that I have feelings for her. I have never been in a relationship nor have never ever told any girls that I like them; hopefully this will be my first time. As a bit of background information, I've known her for over a year; we are both 17 and go to the same school; as we have different lessons, I only usually see her during break and lunchtimes, even then, our conversation don't last for very long. However I do speak to her regularly on MSN. I've had a crush on her for a good few months.

I would like to know...

- How should I go on to do that?
- What wordings should I use so that I wont scare her off?

If your crush has spent a while basking (or occasionally for some, suffering) in the admiration of guys, she most likely already knows that you have feelings for her.

Why not invite her along to do something fun with a group of friends? Seeking a relationship prematurely will likely scare her off no matter how you word it.
