Dating your boss

Or rather me dating mine!

My boss asked me out to dinner, I agreed and we went out tonight.
We both had a really lovely time...But the fact that he is my boss is the only thing putting me off slightly.
Although he is my boss, i dont actually work directly with him, so time spent with him at work is minimal.

Whatever I decide to do, I know that I wont let it interfere with work, and to be honest, I dont see how it would really.

I usually keep personal life and work life separate, but this kinda sprung up on me lol!

I don't have to lie to tell you what I think you want to hear: happy, happy...joy, joy. How's that?

I've never understood why it's supposed to be a horrible idea to date people from one's workplace, but a great idea to date random strangers you bump into at a party or at a bar, or on some date-me-I'm-desperate website.

Before your first date you had a good chance to see how this guy relates to people, you knew something about his abilities and ambitions, and you knew more of his personal history than you'd learn from a chance-met guy in months of dating. Sounds good to me.

chump4u, the problem with your advice is that it ignores long-term repercussions for short-term pleasure. Is a fling with a boss really worth ruining your career over?

You may be able to separate the two but how do you know he can and will. These things are always said at the beginning but when things go farther and things get deeper... things change.

Good luck though. I don't know if it's too late to turn around now... he might think you led him on and that could be worse.

There are no 'rules' as such, about dating colleagues in my company.
I dunno, i guess it was only a date, and im not even sure whether he wants another or not yet! (though i did get the feeling he does!)

Either way, it wouldnt ruin my career...but I get your thinking, this is why im not sure.

True..it was just dinner tonight- not too late to turn around. He seems like a decent guy and i definately havnt led him on in any way at all.
But Im slightly doubting my ability as a good judge of character lately.

bad idea... if things work out, your co-workers will hate you for getting "special treatment", and if it doesn't go well - and particularly if it goes very poorly - it will suck ass to go to work, assuming you still have a job.
