Who asks who out? Dating and sexual equality?

Just interested and would like to hear opinions. Despite the fact that we live in times of sexual equality I get the impression that for many it is still the job of the guy to ask out the woman. Some women seem to think that if they ask a guy out there are 'desperate' yet if a guy asks out a woman he's not 'desperate"?
I have been asked out by women and feel very flattered.

you were flattered, but did you accept?
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

Of course I accepted. They might have turned out to be the love of my life.

I have asked out 3 men. All 3 have excepted and 2 turned into 3 year plus relationships one of which I am marrying.

So you weren't worried about being seen as 'desperate"?

I guess inside yeah maybe... deep down but here's how I see it. I'm decently good looking I guess so even if I got rejected I'm not desperate I'd probably be able to hook some other dudes interest relatively quickly.

But let's just say I was very unattractive, and I was asking out a lot of men... then yes, I might appear (and BE) a little bit desperate but as it stands I'm turning men down more than they are me.

So my answer is yes, and no.

Good for you and I'm glad it's working for you. I'm very interested in the fact that despite we are 'equal' some women find it hard to ask out a man. And yet it could be the perfect person for them.

I think a lot of womens reasons is the assumption about the OTHER side- men. I think it's a fairly true statement to assume that men *do* still enjoy a chase... that said if women ask them out- there isn't a chase!

In my case I recognize this however, when I ask a man out I am not at his mercy. He still must "chase" and by chase I mean more like woo me into believe my choice to apporach first was the right one.

I think this is a case of "what women think men want..." IMO.
