What does a girl REALLY mean when she says "We should hang out"?

Theres this girl I'm crazy about and when we lost touch for about a month she came to see me and said: "We should hangout this summer" given our history it seemed like this was a date hint, yet when we went out, I kindof felt like it was just as friends, irregarless of the signs shes thrown at me.
