    fake laughter?

on shows like the colbert report and daily show with john stewart, do people watch the show while they're recording? i don't know much about tv, i don't watch it much.

do they record fake laughter after every freakin' little thing the comedians say? i mean, there is laughter sometimes after things that aren't even funny!

oh damn, I wanted to watch those shows while i'm here.. but.. no tv here.

yeah, I wonder the same thing about Real Time with Bill Maher, though the audience claps and yells more than laughs there-- well at least HBO has the decency to put it out as a podcast so that I can listen to it. I don't know how those things are done, though.

    Both those shows have audiences.

If you've ever gone to a comedy club you'll notice it's a lot easier to laugh than it is when you're sitting home watching TV.

never been to one. never had the opportunity. one reason i can't wait for college. also, probably something i will attend a lot more in my later years; i love comedy.

that's what i was thinking too. being that there's an audience and you get to be up close and personal with whoever star they are interviewing, everything will seem to be more euphoric.

Don't they have signs too, like that say "laugh" "applaud", et cetera?

I don't think they need that on the Daily Show.

i don't know about signs... that would be silly. they did that back in medieval times, though.

it would be easier to just digitally manipulate the sound. i think that they may record fake laughter. it all sounds a bit fake.
