Being single 'worse than smoking'

I digged up a couple of these articles from the caverns of the BBC site backlog. Even though i did have predispositions to this earlier, it is interesting to see that some form of research has actually been done in this area

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/1820483.stm

I think I can also agree with this statement "Social relationships are good for physical and mental health and wellbeing. "

So people (Especially guys). It's become too risky being single

Oh, I thought i'd spam another link I found interesting http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4249859.stm

"Hearing shocking news, such as learning of the death of a loved one, really can break your heart, US researchers say. "

Opinions? Thoughts?

Weak find the whip, willing find freedom
Towards the sun, carry your name
In warm hands you are given
Ask the wind for the way
Uncertainty's gone, your path will unravel
Accept all as it is and do not blame

Do you have any research data to back that up?

Because these people do...

You can believe whatever makes you feel better.

But if you expect me to believe that some lovebird chain smoker is in better health than me you can go shove it up your ass.

hey , isnt that like , when an old couple is around and one dies , even if the other was healthy , he(or she) will die because they miss each other really badly . Its just like no reason to live anymore soo .

reminds me of Star wars III ...

I do. I am still alive. I also know single virgins in their 50's...who are great white sox fans and physically could kick your ass. In America I can see it being a health risk. What the problem with America is that people think that being single is some how "bad" ..it is these people that when they are single force depression on them-self. Depression IS harmfull....being single..IS NOT..harm-full...unfortunatly for some that they fall under depression because of being single...and I dont care..get rid of the weak. Its BBC news man...they had an article how dipping oreo cookies was a bad habit....think about that!

I think what they mean though is not some health problems as people are saying on here. What they mean is the risk of natural death causes (like getting hit by a bus) is reduced. I agree because if a hail of gun fire came my way a wife can be a usefull body shield.

It seems little different than what occurs in any pack animal species, as homo sapien is. Isolate an individual animal from its pack, it will deteriorate.

"If they have a growth spurt earlier, which is associated with reaching puberty earlier, everyone thinks they're fine, strong men and it may be that peers value that in the group.

"Once they reach adulthood, even when size differences are no longer in existence, the early maturing boys do better in their relationships and careers."

"If you have good social relationships you tend to be healthier."
ROFL!

Quoted from BBC for humour. Cant believe some one hired this idiot as a psychologist.

Actually, OV, I was thinking of you being a perfect example of what happens to a pack animal when it's isolated from its pack. Experiencing delusions of grandeur is an early symptom of more debilitating effects yet to come. What makes you think human consciousness is any "higher" than that of any other animal species? I'd hazard that for every higher quality you might attribute to humans, I or someone else would be able to point to another animal which has, arguably, that same quality.
