    working with an ex......

me and my boyfriend of 1 year broke up just a few weeks ago. the thing is we work together, in the same office, 2 seats away from each other!! this made things awkward and i dont know what to do for the best. we are speaking to each other, in fact he is being very friendly towards me....wanting to take me out for lunch and stuff. i went along a few times but then i told him i would rather not do it anymore because it felt awkward and i felt like it wasnt helping me to get over him. it was like we were doing what we done when we were in a relationship..although we werent anymore. The break up was his idea.....i did not see it coming at all!! we had never fought and as far as i was concerned things were great between us...we were even planning a holiday!. Breaking up with him had left me broken hearted.....i love him so much. i dont know of seeing him everyday is good for me or not. i enjoy being in his company and i like speaking to him every day.....but i feel like im never going to get over him this way. He seems like he is over me and i have to watch him come in everyday and get on with life as if nothing ever happened. he doesnt seem upset at all. although im not sure if this is actually the case...he could be putting on a brave face for work. had anyone else been in this situation? i think i should probably look for a new job....although i cant imagine having no contact with him at all

been there done that. no need to change jobs, act like nothing happened. be friendly and civil.

it took me about a month to get over him, and then it was like nothing ever happened. of course i try to not talk too much to him.

yep, he managed to get married and have a child last year as well. i've been more than nice to his whole family as far as giving gifts for the baby and stayed positive. he really appreciates us being able to remain civil and not creating a hostile environment. we do sit in the same room, a couple of seats away.

Finding another job would help you move on. Especially since it was him who broke up with you, meaning that you still have feelings for him. They won't be easily extinguished if you interact with him everyday. A lot will probably depend on how stoic you are, if you have the strength try to ignore him to the best of your abilities. If you don't then finding another job would probably save you a lot of pain.
