There's so much that I want to type, so much that was said, so much that happened. I'm going to break it down into several installments, Mathias style.
Me and my friend Will (who never met my team mates or been to New Orleans) flew to NOLA for Thanksgiving from the 22nd to the 28th.
I was mostly going to see Amy.
11/22
I didn't get that excited until we landed in NOLA, and were being driven to the Hands On New Orleans facility that my AmeriCorps team set up last year. Taking the exit to Claiborne, the adrenaline started pumping. We pull around the corner to park at the facility. It was about 4:30 and the work crews were comin' back.
I look up the street and there was Amy, back to us walking to unload a vehicle.
"Amy, is that Amy??"
My heart starts racing, it all seemed so surreal.
The car hadn't even come to a complete stop when I was opening the door to step out.
Let's just say her welcoming of me and Will was "less than ideal".
She simply didn't seem all that happy to see me.
Granted, she was stressed, tired, over worked, sick, and expecting her family the next day, I was a still bit disappointed in my reception from her.
I didn't have much time to dwell on it as my other team mate Megan and my old team leader Neal found me. I spent the first hour hugging staff members I had forgotten about and re-touring the facility that I had helped set up.
I ended up spending the rest of the evening catchin' up with old team mates ('cept Amy) and staff.
Nonetheless distracted with the reception I received from her earlier that day.
I'm gonna stop here for now, sorry, I'm still tired from the trip back. But I'll post more tomorrow.
