Our 1 year anniversary was last month. A few weeks before it my b/f made a casual comment about being together almost a year.
We went out to dinner the night before our actual anniversary. He didnt say it was to celebrate our anniversary though. Toward the end of dinner I said "Do you know what today is?" He looked at his phone and said "Actually it's tomorrow." He raised his wine glass and said "Happy Anniversary" and got a tear in his eye. Then he said "Has it really been that bad?"
We've had problems since our relationship started.. mainly because he was only separated when we met (he is since divorced a couple months).
A few days later I asked why he hadn't wanted to celebrate. He said "I didn't want to end up saying anything like 'I love you and can't live without you'... or 'let's move in together next week'. I know he is petrified of making another mistake... but I was kind of hurt that he didn't want to formally celebrate.. and fearful about saying those things.
I'm not sure what to make of it all. I wasn't expecting a ring or anything!
