    Well it happened again...

Working once again on a long weekend...

I worked 20+ hours over Memorial day weekend, and over 31 hours this weekend.

Only, this weekend it was because the ****ing datacenter caught fire in an electrical vault, setting off the sprinklers which fried 2 out of four backup generators instantly, and the other 2 fried when the came up under load and couldn't handle it.

    *sigh*

What a long day Friday was.

    Anyway. Cheers all!
"Well, then," the Cat went on, "you see a dog growls when it's angry, and wags its tail when it's pleased. Now I growl when I'm pleased, and wag my tail when I'm angry. Therefore I'm mad."

I had to work yesterday (the 4th of July), too. It was a really tough shift. Otherwise, I don't usually mind working on holidays; in fact, I am likely to volunteer to work on most of them. I love Thanksgiving, though... I would love to be guaranteed a 4 day weekend for that, and I would happily work on Christmas, New Years, Easter, 4th of July...

Yeah, so? It's a national holiday, and a day for people to get together with family. That it holds no religious importance to me doesn't negate that aspect. It doesn't for you, does it?

No. No one does. Hanukah is a minor holiday. The equivelent would be like asking for Valentine's day off. I suppose people could take Valentine's day off, but like Hanukah (or any other non-Christian holiday, for that matter), they wouldn't get paid.

Look, I don't have a problem with defining Christmas as a religious holiday, but if it IS religious, then people who aren't religious shouldn't celebrate it - not just the Jewish/Muslims/Hindus, etc.

However, most people who celebrate Christmas don't consider themselves religious, so they say it isn't a religious holiday. Fine; but if it's not religious for YOU, why does it have to be for anyone else?

If you make a holiday a national holiday, then you have to apply it equally to everyone. Either way, it's a holiday I wouldn't mind working on in exchange for Thanksgiving.
