General Complaints, pt. 6

Forums need to be clustered. There are way, waaaay too many forums. Let's merge some. I don't have the energy to type up the full suggestion again. Someone else can do it.

I have a new suggestion, though. Before someone writes a post in a love advice forum, there should be some flash warning/notice above the "Post New Thread" screen that gives them reminders on how to ask proper advice. Here's one I typed up that may be a good starting point:

Tips for getting the best advice in your thread:

1. Be sure to specify your age and sex, and the age and sex of any other parties involved. All too frequently, the advice changes based on these variables.

2. Use proper spelling and punctuation to the best of your ability.

3. Use paragraph breaks. None of us want to read a huge block of text.

4. If your post is particularly long, include a brief, 1- to 2-sentence tl;dr summary at the bottom.

5. Don't be vague! None of us understand the context as well as you do, so give us helpful information.

Remember that this is a free forum, and we give advice in our free time. Your mileage may vary.

None of those rules make it overtly clear that one is to not write a long post if one is able to be descriptive (3,4) and not be vague (5).

New user will be restricted to 400 characters for new thread/post until they have accumulate > 100 posts(where they will be promoted to Regular user).
This is still in 'testing' phase.

WTF. You cannot reasonably expect anyone to post their entire situation in 400 characters. I'd much rather have a wall of text than an extremely generic thing that's not particularly interesting.

As it is, I only respond to the longer posts that actually pose interesting problems to solve. With this rule in play, I'll pretty much never give advice. I'll just be an asshole.

It's absolutely insane!!! 400 characters is WAY too little. Also, I got the message saying that I couldn't post more than 400 characters "until I became a regular member with > 100 posts". I have over 6000 posts!?!?

loveadmin, please remove this absurd limitation. Address the other issues we have repeatedly brought up: group together some of the subforums, they are way too many.

admin 400 words is not enough. I personally hate it when a new poster gives too little information. We cant possibly help someone without knowing all the facts. I dont mind reading 4-5 paragraphs. We will end up only having all our regular users and no newbies soon and then we will just end up posting BS threads like "what movies are you currently watching" coz we are bored.. And then you will just lose half the regular members too
