I know this is an obvious thread but don't reckon we've had it yet so...
If you were going to a desert island and were only allowed to take one book with you, what would you take & why?
I'd take "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. I don't know what it is about this book but everytime I read it I get something different out of it.

"Like Water for Chocolate" by Laura Esquivel. Wow this is has got to be one of my all time favorites.

the lord of the rings, all 4. Tolkien. I've love the books since i read them long ago. they are the reason that i love to read fiction. i loved the movies too, the love in the movies was kinda weird though, but i guess you have to put love in movies these days. I like all charles dickens books too. they are dark and so good when you're depressed about the world. i like authors that are from where i am too like tony hillerman or rudolpho anaya. i could go on and on.

the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy trilogy, good quality science fiction with a healthy dose of humour and social commentary.. made me smile many times and i'll never get bored of reading them, roll on the movie

Never realy read enough, but there was one book that stuck with me.
War of the Worlds by H.G Wells.
The 3rd and 4th movies of this book are coming out this year. One's by Stephen Spielbergand has Tom Cruise in it

Even though its a tad jeuvenile (most effective for 14-21 year olds), its still one of the most awesome books I have ever read. The imagery that it puts in my mind scares me just thinking about it, but the author somehow managed to do that in an uncluttered, relatively simple vocabulary.
