How far in advance to ask a girl out?

How far in advance should you ask someone out before the actual date? Is a week in advance good so they have time to make plans? Thanks in advance

a week is perfect. don't talk much to them the first of second day.

A week seems long to me, depending on the date offer. For the first date, I usually try 4 days, and something informal like lunch or coffee. I try to avoid the weekend and ask them out on a weekday. So I'll ask on a sunday for a Wednesday coffee or Thursday lunch. Then after the date, I'll wait 2-3 days to call them, and then ask them out 2-3 days after that. Ask when is a good time to call and confirm; it will increase your chances of getting in contact.
