    Words from her dad...

My gf and her dad were talking a few weeks ago and he said that no one will ever be good enough for her or her sister.

Sometimes I wish I could just smack her dad around a little. He's just weird sometimes... he was offended (I didn't find out til later when she told me) because after he showed me the refinished bathroom and told me that there used to be carpet where the tile was, I said that I had never understood having carpet in a bathroom or kitchen.

    What father doesn't think that?

I find it a little unreasonable. He made it seem like since no one will be good enough, he won't be accepting of anyone her or her sister is with.

You'll feel the same way when you have a daughter one day.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

I said that it looked great. He had taken then carpet out and replaced it with tile. The comment I made was after he mentioned that there was carpet there previously. I thought it was there when they bought the house and he finally got around to replacing. I didn't know he put the carpet in it too.

While I might think that no one will be good enough, I won't show my disapproval for the guy my daughter is dating unless he screws up somehow. It's been a year and I've yet to do a single thing he could disapprove of.

It doesn't bother me anymore. I know she and I are staying together and all his disapproval will do will be to cause me to not want to go over there.

Bad plan. You want to be in on their good side (assuming you intend to make a life with this girl). You need to work at making it good because your relationship with your girl will eventually become strained if you don't. They may annoy you, but they are her family, and I am sure she loves them.

The problem is her dad says shit without thinking. I'm not going to go over there if he's going to be a prick to me.

He is probably just a little thoughtless. Just limit the amount of time you are there, and try not to be so sensitive.

when it comes down to it, she should be the one to stand up to her father. if she won't, you still have no right to smack him around a little regardless of how you feel.

f*ck that shit. I would seriously laugh at a parent if he or she told me no guy will ever be good enough for their daughter. I'm probably too good for most girls.

The father was just displaying a little disappointment..that's all. I thought a carpet was weird too but when I asked the landlord to do some repairs instead of tiles, he placed a carpet! I was shocked...but now I love it and my home may have it too.

To make it easy, I never say anything that my seem offense. I would rather say nothing than risk saying something disappointing in my short visit.

Another poster stated that the gf is the one that should stand up for issues the parent may have of you is true. They will love you for it.

Why are you so upset about a comment like that? We all have little disappointments after hearing negative comments…just like you are expressing disappointment about his negative comment.

Let it go or you may risk creating tension with the girlfriend.
