    Perception of Others

So, there's this cute girl who is a data entry clerk at a legal office down the hall from where I work. I should mention now that I'm into women who are more subtle and passive than flashy and aggressive. This girl seemed to fit the bill. She seemed shy and a bit on the nerdy side (both of which are huge pluses for me). Always dressed rather conservatively. A month ago I got the nerve to ask her for her number (which, amazingly, she gave me), and we got into a conversation. Based on that chat, I felt, at least on a superficial level, that we were pretty compatible.

The next day I called her up and left a message on her voice (to which she never called me back).

The next time I saw her, she had a new boyfriend (or at least a boyfriend she neglected to mention), and I was heartbroken. Her new boyfriend didn't seem anything like the type of guy I thought she would be attracted to, but she seemed happy and that's really all that matters with that.

I guess I'm just frustrated that my instincts about people are pretty unreliable. There is, for instance, another woman I work with who is really (I mean REALLY) quiet, timid, and shy when she's at work, but I can't shake the feeling that's all a big facade she puts out there. In fact, I've started to trust her less and less about who she says she is.

I've forgotten what my question is now. I guess I'm just ranting.

You called her at work or at home? What was the message you left?

I called her on the weekend (I said I would beforehand) and told her "I was in your neighborhood and my friends and I were going out to dinner. If you wanted to come, you'd be more than welcome." (or something pretty close to that)

I called her a second time a few hours later before dinner, but I didn't leave a message. I've never called her since.

Well then, she must be a filthy liar. My dirty mind reels with the possibilities of what her secret life might be. She's a porn star. She's a pre-op trannie. She's a crack whore. She's Pentecostal. She's a Satanist. She's really into SMBD and spends all weekend in a rubber bodysuit serving her master at one of his pervy parties. She brings a dildo to work in her purse.

Dude, get a grip. Just because something didn't work out with someone you asked out doesn't mean everyone else out there is full of shit. Are you always so extreme, or do you reserve this special part of yourself for potential girlfriends?

And what's with wanting a submissive woman? A little quiet bird who won't show you up? Somebody who won't trigger those massive insecurities? You like to be the boss? What's the deal?

Take the message and move on. If you made the initial effort and got nothing in return that's your sign to find someone else. don't waist your time heart broken of this.
    Relationships need work.
    The investment will be worthwhile.

I already have moved on. In fact, I asked out a girl yesterday and she accepted my invitation.

I swear I posted a response to Gigabitch and it does not seem to be here. Is this site known for censorship?

    No, not at all.

I actually said that while I agree that with you that I was clearly overracting, I didn't really care what you thought of my preferences in personality types.

    Everyone has preferences.
