Bleh. You can have the American Dream.

If people are good only because they fear punishment and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed.

lol DM you're so funny the way you get so passionate..
it's the only place they can afford to live (therefore they are relegated to that area) and if the area's weren't ghetto they would have better nicer cleaner areas (therefore are stuffed in by society to forget about) and as people in the ghetto make money they move out. simple they get forgotten about by their own too. ygg is right...bring it ON!
actually Ireland is pretty good that way they will always have social housing in every area no matter how posh, it's the law
p.s. thats why we don't have ghettos

Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody's watching
Drive through a poor part of Baltimore for example and you'll see people sitting on their porches. They aren't working. They aren't striving to get out of the ghetto. They've just given up or they never tried to begin with. No matter how vocal they may be, the truth is nobody forced them there. Opportunities exist for those who pursue them.
Not everyone in the ghetto is a deadbeat. Some are on their way out, some actually do have valid complaints. Many, however, choose not to work for it and so they spend their lives in the ghetto pointing an accusatory finger at anyone and anything they can.

it benefits society if people aren't relegated to particular areas. down the road from me there are families that would be in the ghetto if they lived in any other country but mine. it means that there is less crime in specific areas and people feel less looked down on. that in itself it a motivation to do better. but if all their neighbours were in the same boat then imo its less encouraging to trying harder

And? Should everyone live equally? Kids brought up in those areas are given the opportunity to do well in school and go on to college and get a good career. Who gives a shit about how "clean" some area is? To a focused person that would not distract them from achieving what they want
And BTW, the neighborhood my dad grew up in, while although poor, WAS clean and safe because the people weren't nincompoop lazy deadbeats. Poorness does not equal dirty and dangerous, it depends on who is living there. Where my dad grew up it was European immigrants who were poor. The poor areas you talk about are black ghettos who have been here for generations
Wrong. You don't have ghettos because you don't have black people. The VAST majority (almost all) of these poor people you claim are being somehow systematically forced to live in certain areas (an outrageous but typical liberal claim) are black. You don't have that in Ireland
That is something non-Americans will never understand, and something liberal Americans will try to deny. It's what makes our cities so much different from yours. More than half of the people who live in most American cities are black, and they generally live in the poor "ghetto" areas that cause all the crime, take the welfare, and give our cities a reputation for being "dangerous." Your cities are homogeneous as f*ck
would you reckon that is because of your history of slavery maybe? they congregated and never left due to discrimination on the outside and now find it difficult to integrate maybe?
just a thought

Exactly. My dad didn't think anything of working all throughout high school while still graduating at the top 5 of his class. He made money to pay for school and made the grades to get into school
He didn't think much about working 40 hours a week in college at a steel mill from midnight to 8AM every Mon - Fri to help pay for expenses, he knew that's how you get ahead. All while graduating at the top of his class
Oh yeah, and he lived in a poor area just how we are describing now. Only the poor areas were filled with European immigrants who worked hard, took care of the small properties they lived on, and didn't cause crime because they wanted to WORK to get ahead. What's the difference between that and the "new" poor areas we are describing? Oh yeah, they are the black ghettos. There's the difference
The problem is in the work ethic and attitude

Hahahaha... NO.
I've been to Europe (Italy and Switzerland). Compared to the US there are almost NO blacks
And btw, when I say black I am referring to African-Americans, not black people in general. Italy has a number of illegal immigrants from Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, etc...
And besides, I DON'T NEED PERSON EXPERIENCE TO KNOW DEMOGRAPHICS! Detroit is over 80% black. Madrid, Spain, is over 80% SPANIARD
Most American cities are over 50% black. Europe doesn't compare. I do know what I'm talking about. 80% is a lot greater than 5%
Oh yeah You have visited Italy and Switzerland and You know eeeeverything about Europe - can I start to laugh?
You would have to live here or visit at least 10 countries to be able to say You know SOMETHING about Europe little man
PS. I know Madrid is in Spain ,but one city doesn`t show whole picture buddy, especially picture of whole Europe lol
Yeahhhhh mr Smart guy tell me more
I wazzzz here
Our country is more unequal because we have a lot more rich people than you do. So it would in fact look very unequal
Economic inequality is a good thing because it means some kind of meritocracy is at work
BTW, you can't talk about "mixing" in IRELAND. Ireland is 95% white. And of that, you are talking mostly Irish and British. There isn't anything to mix
