Its too bad, really. Because historically, Canadians were/are really kick-ass in the field. A bit nuts, like the Aussies (Diggers). I guess you learn to do a lot with a little.

Not the Aussies, btw. They seem to support their troops a lot better.

Fixed your post. LOL. No penguins in Canada.

Haha... My bf is hardcore pacifist... hardly "kick-ass." He did hold an AK-47... he said it was the most conflicting pose if ever he saw one. Though he did say it was a very nice gun... even if it's been used by just about every tyrant out there.

AD, your life is worth more than you know. You and people like you are the reason people like me do the things we do. Besides I'm pretty much better now, and have been since rehab. It's amazing what can be done, any more. One of my friends was injured in the same incident as I was, and lost his foot, but they re-attached it and he's doing fine, and still in the Army.

I'm glad your friend regained his foot... and hopefully full use of it as well. And happy to hear that you're recovering well too.

I come from a military family (every male has been in the services going back at least 4 generations... if not more)... but my bf is purely pacifist. My own views on the matter do not favor one extreme or the other but adheres to logic (or at least tries to).

Sadly wars are not fully understood until the aftermath... so I'm always holding my breath whenever they send our boys (and girls) out to fight... because you want it to be for a damn good reason.

The United States just loves its wars.

When was the last time the US was completely disengaged from any military engagements?

I'm from a branch of a military family that didn't go. My father's family is all Army & marines, but my mom wouldn't have it, so my cousins went while my brother and I did not.

I think it would have been a good fit for me, actually. I love structure.

Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia... I mean Eastasia.

Sorry... didn't mean for that to slip.

Furthermore has it crossed your mind that a vet's combat experience was very traumatic, emotional, and something they just don't want to talk about? Just because they'll talk about their experiences amongst each other, that doesn't mean they feel comfortable talking about it with you.

No, you completely missed the point. It doesn't even matter. I'm beginning to feel like I'm in some kind of dick swinging contest, and it's just pointless.
I knew a bar where they flat out banned military personel from attending. These guys would come over from the base and sexually assault women and start fights.

The stories I've heard from people who have been in the fulltime service is that it would be bad for young men aside from teaching them discipling and what not. You can learn to be disciplined in other ways.

They've essentially come out and during their time serving treated women like crap (which is something I fully support)

    The answer is simple :

We're all not physically able to serve. I tried to join when I was 19 but I was rejected for medical reasons. I still want to join the reserves because I am racist and want to kill foreigners if they invade. If you women have some notion that a serviceman will treat you with respect and decency because they've been taught how to be a gentleman by learning to kill arabs... I think you are mistaken.

They might act that way for the camera... but I doubt it is the reality. USA might be different....... like that captain who told women in darwin off for not wearing enough clothing.

What the F is with that anyway ? If Australian girls are hot then they should not wear clothes at all.

Anyway I'm glad I got rejected it would have ruined my life. Come out after 7 years 'so what skills do you have' 'I know how to kil people', 'excellent, this is where the large fries go !'

Obviously job dependent but still .... 'I can fix electronic missle system != I can install lighting in that brothel you just built and have an electricians license'.
