"Time is irrelevant as well. We can't perceive past or future only right now. So, if you want to get really weird, our 'mind' is just a snapshot of present time. Our brain has continuity, but not our mind."

time is absolutely relevant. It is necessary for the existence of everything including our minds. Also, we can perceive the past. What do you call memories then if not imprints of time?

Just what you said. They are memories. But you cannot perceive a smell or touch from the past, the experience of it only happens in that moment. I told you it was weird, this concept of present time. Some philosophies say this is all there really is. Now.
Second thoughts can generally be amended with judicious action; injudicious actions can seldom be recovered with second thoughts.

your memories contain the perception of touch, smell, taste, etc. So in essence, you are perceiving the past.

ugh, I hate when people over-complicate things to make themselves appear smart. Those philosophers need to be b*tchslapped. Present time is relative. It doesn't refer to an absolute reference point in the space-time continuum (i.e. if you traveled forward or backward in time, wherever you ended up would still be considered "present time.")

Is there an absolute point in the space-time continuum? I think a physicist would have a good laugh at this, Neo.

I said present time is relative. I'm pretty sure "time is relative" is a commonly accepted concept. Not sure what your question has to do with my post, but my guess would be there is no absolute point in the space-time continuum. Black holes, for example, distort time and space as we understand it.

    how so?

The concept of measuring time is more interesting than the concept of mind, IMO. I guess I'm changing the topic.

A physicist would find the statement funny b/c there is no way to measure an absolute point in time. Tho, that could simply be a lack of imagination on our part. The EM spectrum is a continuum, but we were clever enough to come up with a way to describe a particular portion of it (frequency). There is no equivalent for time that I am aware of.

I do think I know why there isn't an equivalent, tho. Do you know? Why can we measure a frequency for EM and not an equivalent for time?

(important question for a scientist, btw)

thanks for the leg-up, captain condescension.

what about people with dissociative identity disorder....do you think that they can be two individuals at once? how can you be individual if there's more than one identity inside your brain?

Sanctuary, don't tell her. It's funnier if fewer people know about it.
