nomas you're the best. you know i agree with you. i don't know why we're here, i don't know why all this is happening and nobody does really. and we can go around and around as to whether or not there is a god. and you know i won't even argue. i don't really care what everybody else thinks. people can believe whatever tops their toast you know? but i believe in god. i don't go to church. i learn about all different religions and they all make sense to me. god has a different meaning to everyone i think. ov has his definition of whore and i have my definition of god. i don't care how many times people tell me, "there is no god". you can say it over and over and over, i am made of something, and that something is made of something, and on and on and on. that's my god. there may or may not be a "maker" or "creator" and that may or may not be god, i don't know. i don't intend to assert my beliefs onto anyone. i don't even know what my beliefs are. i just wanted to come look at these cool photos and ponder the universe a bit. it is incredible.

Haha! Nice, I'm glad you're getting involved! I guess just ignoring it was not an option, eh? (Note: That will be the first of many jabs.)

I think you should keep your audience in mind if you are truly trying to convey a point you truly believe in. The average reader won't understand what the hell you're trying to tell them when you speak with words only someone with some level of proficiency on the field (or a higher level of education) will understand. You know you know something well when you can explain it to someone with no background on the subject matter.
This is the contempt I speak of. On the internet I have no time to dumb myself down, nor do I think I need to. I use the words that best fit my ideas.

Whether you are disgusted by it or not, it's a true statement as per my example. I never used the word "virtuous" when I was speaking about my own philosophies..it's simply what rules I live by..what I find to be the responsible approach. I think it's irresponsible to simply "shake people etc."

if that's all you're going to do. As far as I've seen, you don't have all the answers any more than any religion does. So you propose to impose your own beliefs along the way because this is what people shall "wake up" to. It's great to propose your thoughts and theories, but you do exactly the same thing one.m does: push your own unproven ideas as the truth on to others whether they want to hear them or not, except you go about it in a more condescending way.
My "unproven ideas," eh? All I give are theories, and I pretty much acknowledge that they are nothing but that. In fact, that's what I mean by "shaking people," just attempting to wake them up to the infinite possibilities. Kind of like what I did with One.moron.

Back to this (as you put it) "virtuous" behavior I parttake in. My argument there was happiness vs unhappiness while all other factors remained constant. If you claim the truth factor was the one that changed, I say it didn't. You merely replace one theory with another.
I disagree. I think there's something to be said for man's intellect. Humans rely on reason to survive, and we don't just make it up. We discover it. This leads me to the next quote.

"There is so much to learn, and so little time!"
This little guy I agree with...but I think you flatter yourself if you think you have a good chance to learn any significant percentage throughout your lifetime. So why bother those who know .0001% where you will offer to show them .00015% in exchange for complicating their lives when they were just fiine where they were? Perhaps this is virtuous behavior?..and spare me the observation that this is an extreme example..I'm just painting a picture here.
    See above.

"I'd hate myself for accepting ignorance as the best way to live."
Once again, you put words in my mouth.
"This is why I say, Donut, that ignorance is bliss." There. Now I'm taking them out of it. And perhaps you are making the assumption that these people are all as happy as you think.

I'd like to know why you think this. A shame for their existence?? I'd like to see how you will support this, even if I give you they probably do have a desire for salvation.
Okay. To many catholics and christians, being born is a sin. The "Original Sin" is passed on to you and you must repent for salvation. I would call this the "shame of existence." Good enough?

I dunno. How do we know it's anything at all? Again..no proof..your guess is as good as mine. There are only more probablilities that it's one versus the other, but then again, the most learned and educated guess can be way WAY off due to factors we cannot even begin to think of dreaming of possibly conceiving..get me? We don't know what we don't know. If you cannot prove it I suggest you don't call arrogantly call it truth.
When did I call anything truth? I'd like to see how well you support that. "How do we know it's anything at all?" Hahahahahahahahahaha... sad.

I enjoy this a lot, looking forward to more!

    Peace.

Would it not have been easier to just say "what ever floats your boat"?
    "Why are you an atheist?"
"because I paid attention in science class."

and you know what I say? I say " easy road for the hard life and easy road for the easy life and easy road no matter what...JUST EASY ROAD!". Why make things hard for your-self if they do not need to be? . OH well....nice pictures though

Original sin is inherent. That's correct. However to say 'being born is a sin....the shame of existence', with all due respect, Sir, that statement is utter rubbish.

i think all that matters is what lies within you.
It takes a minute to have a crush on someone, an hour to like someone, a day to love someone - but it takes a lifetime to forget someone"

People change and forget to tell each other.

I assume your "jab" is that you insist that I'm all for "ignorance" or "ignoring" anything disagreeable, right? If not, I don't know how this is a jab.

I may as well jump right on this "ignorance" talk and clear it up for you once and for all:

    I interpret this statement:
"I'd hate myself for accepting ignorance as the best way to live."
As if you were accusing me of accepting ignorance as the best way to live. This is what I've never said.

"This is why I say, Donut, that ignorance is bliss." There. Now I'm taking them out of it. And perhaps you are making the assumption that these people are all as happy as you think.
What have said is that I support this "ignorance is bliss" idea time and time again in the examples I've given. You feel I'm making assumptions that these people are as happy as I think, and technically I'll never know because I'm not inside their head, but what I judge it by is the same thing you may judge someone's happiness: how often do they smile, laugh, etc.

But let me make this clear: I DO NOT feel ignorance is the best way to live.. I have especially never said this is the way for me personally..you know I've said quite the opposite. You know I am one to seek more and more knowledge as well. Our difference in philosophy here is whether or not to preach it to any and all people, regardless of how much relevant it may be to their every day lives.

This is the contempt I speak of. On the internet I have no time to dumb myself down, nor do I think I need to. I use the words that best fit my ideas.
I sympathize with you that as it is oral communication is limited and suggesting to limit your terms only adds to the possibility of miscommunication, but be aware that you will discourage a lot of readers from following what you're saying..thus failing at your attempt to wake up as many people as you can along your life.

My "unproven ideas," eh? All I give are theories, and I pretty much acknowledge that they are nothing but that. In fact, that's what I mean by "shaking people," just attempting to wake them up to the infinite possibilities. Kind of like what I did with One.moron.
Okay, I admit you never called them truths. I put words in your mouth there too.

I disagree. I think there's something to be said for man's intellect. Humans rely on reason to survive, and we don't just make it up. We discover it. This leads me to the next quote.

"There is so much to learn, and so little time!"

    See above.
Here we have our own theories. I think you feel human intellect is a force to be reckoned with while I value it a lot less. I like to learn all I can learn, but no matter how much I take in throughout my lifetime, I think it'll still be insignificant and fall way short of possessing knowledge of all that is. I think it's more of a personal thing, this knowledge. The geniuses will make advances in philosophical theories (which ultimately may lead to some answers on existentialism, whatnot..and I'm thinking maybe this is your drive, Donut) or they may be more practical and make medical advances...but other than that, being learned will only last you your own lifetime and this is why I don't spread my beliefs. That's why my polici is "to each his own" on these philosophical discussions. I like to discuss them, but our argument here is propagating it versus letting people be...unless you have to defend your own beliefs.

Okay. To many catholics and christians, being born is a sin. The "Original Sin" is passed on to you and you must repent for salvation. I would call this the "shame of existence." Good enough?
Not quite good enough. I think you liberally interpreted the concept of original sin..still, any organized religion will have disagreements even within itself and interpretations will differ. I will not speak for the catholic church. Maybe you can discuss this one with Chlorine.

When did I call anything truth? I'd like to see how well you support that. "How do we know it's anything at all?" Hahahahahahahahahaha... sad.
I already covered this...I said you didn't, concretely. It was just your insistence that people should "wake up"...I just added "to the truth" to your statement in my own head, I guess, since that's usually what is meant by "wake up" or "open your eyes"..kinda "to see the truth". But this is not what you said...I guess you were just referring to waking up to the fact that there are other theories just as viable and unproven as any you may believe about existentialism. And that "How do we know it's anything at all?" comment I'm sure was in comment to some quote of yours, but alone it doesn't make sense..but I haven't gone back to see what it was.

I enjoy this a lot, looking forward to more!
    I enjoy it myself, Donut.

    Peace.
    Pace, indeed.
