you're not gonna find one of these for a while.

i was listening to this very thing on npr the other day. the demand is too high and the supply is too little. this is supposed to be a good thing but not in this case. they're missing out on millions of dollars worth of sales.
baby ya hustle. but me i hustle harder.

Yep. They miscalc'd this one. XBox & PS3 are doing pretty well now. Most ppl (like me) find them basically equivalent.

Actually Nintendo is churning out Wiis as quickly as they possibly can. The demand is just astronomically huge. People would rather have affordable, fun games over expensive hardcore graphics porn it would seem.

My girlfriend is on this mission to get good at videogames, but I think starting with Halo 3 was a bad idea. So I think I'm gonna loan her my Gamecube and start her off slow with Mario kind of games.

My son wants a game station & I've been told the Wii is best for his age (he's 8). So we will wait. But he's not expecting anything & certainly isn't 'dying' for it. Don't see what the big crush is all about anyway. We don't watch television, so I think a lot of the hype is missed this way.

Well thank you guys so much for the links. Ive bailed on it this year. I spent the money on the xbox 360 last year and well, Chris and I are going to rent one first to see if we really like it. Instead I bought him a great ping pong table for the game part. Next year.

Im not sure why Ninentdo didnt supply enough, but I thought the hype was LAST year. At least it is reasonable in the price dept. But I looked at the games first and didnt see anything worth going nuts for yet.

The PS3 even though I hear its so great, going to wait on that too. Ive spent so much money on video games the last year its time to do something else.

Ive bought Kyle over the years, a fooseball table, air hockey table, a super dart game. And of course theyre no longer around. He's going to be leaving damn at least I hope so soon and I dont want another thing stolen.

    Merry Christmas to you guys!!!!!

Indi, have you thought about getting him a Nintendo DS? They're probably just as hard to find as a Wii, but they have a ton of great games for kids. I believe the DS is officially the best selling gaming system ever.

Yes, I thought of it, and I never will. The advantage of the full game console is that we (or his friends) can play with him. A personal one is just too isolating & addictive.

I saw a group of kids playing w/their gameboys over the summer. They were sitting at the playground, together, but completely ignoring the equipment and each other. Like a bunch of zombies moving nothing but their thumbs. It completely freaked me out. Might as well give him drugs.

No way, nope, never, ain't gonna happen... get the general idea?

Sons of bitches!! Ninetodo DID hold those back! The Target my son works for, this last week, the head manager was FIRED!! Their store had received 70 of them for the Sunday Ad, he released them ALL several days prior to ad coming out, had a bet with several people in the store apparently. And uh, yea what a way to lose your job over the WII!!!

Nintendo is not holding them back.

    Christ.

Whatever stores do is not at all dependent upon Nintendo.

CNBC did a story on Ninetindo and the whole WII thing. They slowed production of them to create a shortage of the WII's, which creates demand. Which is in essential the same thing as if holding them back, the intent WAS to create a larger demand.

That doesn't make any sense. How would slowing production increase demand? Having less units to go round would just mean a lesser proportion of already existing demand was met, not that demand was somehow increased.

    No.

    It's bullshit.

Initially, when the console first launched, this would've made more sense. However, 2 years in? Think about it. If a parent cannot find a Wii, they'll get the next best things, a 360 or a PS3. I had customers do this frequently.

Nintendo would only be hurting themselves at this point. It's just too far into the race to be withholding sales. I've been keeping up with the industry since I can remember, CNBC did what they're supposed to do, create drama to get people to watch.

Ah see that makes sense Frasbee. But here in Sarasota you just couldnt get one. EVERY store only had a few which would come in. When earlier in the year you could get one at ANY store at any given moment. My best guess was it just became a huge commodity because it was the cheaper of all the game consoles. I have no doubt after Christmas you can get one anywhere again. The media DOES a play role in such things, but when youre out looking to buy and cant find them...

We played it today, it so much fun!
