Hey, charlieboy! Welcome back. I thought we lost you for good.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

no you haven't, although that does seem to be the rather persistent rumour. I said I'd be checking in from time to time while I'm overseas.

Logging on tonight's actually been like returning to a nice little home comfort.

I don't know if i would describe freedom as being without loved ones. i would describe it more as having a lot of money and not having to work.

Well, we have missed you, and were worried we lost our "bloke-y" guy (as giga put it). How's England compare to what you imagined?

I think Mish is doing a valiant job of filling the gap.

    We all want a purpose.

And family, friends...they're a purpose and a comfort.

Freedom is boring. It doesn't give me as much opportunity to grow and fill my head with new data at the speed of light of the city life.

Maybe with time, when much of what I needed to learn is there I'll start looking for ways of taking it easy, just seating on the grass with coconut juice at a remote Pacific Island. But until then...

Weak find the whip, willing find freedom

In warm hands you are given

Uncertainty's gone, your path will unravel
Accept all as it is and do not blame

Phaw. You people are just brainwashed. Gotta settle down. Gotta have a mortgage to pay or a lease to live up to, not to mention car payments. You need money for this and money for that because if you ever dragged yourself out of debt, shed your bills and your responsibility, capitalism wouldn't work.

Can you honestly say that the experiences you have living as just another cog in society come anywhere near the experiences you'd have were you free to travel the globe?

Sure, nobody wants to give up their family. But if you didn't have a family to begin with you wouldn't miss them, now would you? Think of all the people you'd meet, all the amazing things you'd see and do. You honestly don't think you'd be as happy?

Freedom doesn't have to mean sitting on a beach sipping a frozen drink. Freedom could mean traveling to an impoverished nation and volunteering yourself. It could mean having all the time you could want to visit the Lourve. There's so much more you can learn by being free.

I've done both, and I have to say that being free effectively equates to being homeless. Not the broke-ass, vagrant kind of homeless, but homeless nonetheless.

It worked for about three years.

I haven't had a place I thought of as home since I was seven years old, so maybe that's why it's so easy for me.

When I roamed around the Southeastern United States for 10 months with my AmeriCorps team...home was any place they were.
