Gee, I wonder smartass. Do you feel smart that you know multiple German"IC" languages? Because if you were actually smart you would know that in common and regular usage, such as how I clearly used the word, "German" means German and not English

I don't know multiple Germanic languages. But I am not an ignorant moron, like you, who wastes his time forming stupid opinions about which language is prettier than the other.

And if you really like math so much, I don't understand what you don't like about the German language. It's more mathematical than English, and it's in fact considered a highly inflected language (go look that up, sonny boy) And about half of the English vocabulary consists of/derived from German(ic) words. You shit on one, you shit on all of them.

It's no wonder; yours is the kind of comment an ignorant person would make.

    Go back to Kindergarten.

Who says I like math? All I have ever done is stated it as a measuring stick to test a persons rigorous mental ability

Go figure. It was either your only defense (because you're too stupid to know much of anything else) or you just really like math so damn much that you bring it up in every subject.

Well, the other comments aside, I think that many who encounter the spoken german language will find it to sound quite crude because of the pronunciation itself, and not so for other languages which might have strong linkages by vocabulary and grammar yet differ when pronounced.

And no, it's not based on watching german telly shows, I studied it for two years. And yes, I think that judging what a language sounds like could be important, in my case I'm having second thoughts about learning mandarin since loud discussions by two girls over where I'm staying makes it sound so annoying. Japanese is nicer, but has far less utility.

Is the horus eye in that wiki photo typical? That's a much older symbol than from jewish origin, I thought.

And yes, I don't find German or Mandarin to be particularly pretty languages to listen to.

It's interesting that English language is refered to as branch of West Germanic when in fact it has more in common with French than with German. English language we know today is a subsequent evolution of Anglo-Norman dating back to 11th century. Normans changed heavily the germanic core predating that century.

I honestly don't know much about the history of English. I'll have to ask my girlfriend about that some time. I am not sure when the English language broke away from the Germanic languages, probably before the second sound shift.

In any case, I do remember staring at a pie chart of English vocabulary words. It was about 1/3 German 1/3 Latin and 1/3 French. A little more German than anything else though, about a half, I would say. I can't remember which book I saw that in, though. I don't know if I would say English is more closely related to French, though. English is close to all the Romance languages; Spanish, some Italian too.

It's not of Jewish origin, but rather middle eastern. It's popular with Arabs and Jews alike. The horus eye is Egyptian, no? The Jews were in the region at that time, too.

I'm not sure about the Arab version, but in the Jewish version, the eye is always blue and is supposed to represent the eye of god or an all-seeing god (or something like that).
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

That would make sense, I guess. Horus was some egyptian god also, I think.

I just wondered how old that symbol is, or at least can be found. I agree about it looking egyptian, but I would bet that its found even earlier. Sumeria? Or mbe even some of those tribal cave paintings? Those things are at least 10000 years old.
