Humans are nothing more than animals who conceal their savagery behind masks of civility. The moment the status quo is disrupted, the instant no one is there to answer a 911 call, those masks crumble and the true beast bares its awful fangs.

God, so atrocious in the Old Testament, so attractive in the New--the Jekyl and Hyde of sacred romance.

If people are good only because they fear punishment and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed.

Where is Doc at?...I'd be curious what he thought on all of this. Its always interesting to see what direction he approaches something.

And he has a manageable temper... why?
Oh yes. B/c I'm a f*ckin' successful, wealthy and reasonable hippy. Who is smart enough to discipline my child w/o hitting. But yes, I'm probably just lucky. No thought whatsoever goes into my parenting.
I could give examples in my family of those who have helped reform teenage drug addicts from horrible homes uisng the same principles I raise my son, but I will stop here.
Sorry for derailing your thread today, Fras.

Sorry about your dad.
FYI - I'm a product of Christian values as well. But that has nothing to do with my being religious (or not).
You could try to get to know the family better. That might be one solution. Or give to your pastor a book on parenting that they can read.
Truly I don't think this thread has an exact direction...its about human trash so we have covered education and not raising children....all of these things pretty much fall into the category of what makes productive members of society and also human trash...I don't think we derailed anything. I actually had a lot of fun.
To be honest I enjoy debating so regardless of how I feel on an issue I'll still argue because I'm good at it....and you were a good opponent....you started on some personal attacks briefly but brought it back in line and kept if fun for me....thank you.

I have no issue with you, Williams. In fact, I bet when the time comes you will find it hard to spank your child. You don't seem the type to do something on principle 'just because'. I could be wrong, of course. But frankly, nothing any of you Pro-Paddlers have said has convinced me its ever okay to hit a child. The position is indefensible, except through historical precedent, and that's not a good argument for most things. That, and all the parents I've seen do it are out of control in some way.
Hitting a child isn't like disagreeing on whether red wines are better than whites. Damned right I'm going to attack someone like that, b/c their kids sure can't. Strange thing is, if it was your child I was defending in another context, you'd be extremely glad of the support of an "asshole" like me. Anyway, I promised Fras would wrap this up. So if any of the posts from Vash, Giga, myself and others who commented on spankings causes anyone to "pause before paddling" it was worth my time and I'm happy to have contributed.
That said, I will thank Incognito for making the issue possible to discuss. Couldn't have done it without him.

I like red wine better....but if given a choice I'll have a rum and coke generally.
