i read the wikipedia entry and i was wrong, not all skinheads are racists, so i apologize for that. however, i got the sense that about half the skinhead population were/are either neo-nazis or white supremicists. so i still think it was a fair assumption on my part.

I don't think you're wrong about that. I think it changes regionally. I have the most experience with Portland skinheads, and they're generally a bunch of racist assholes, with some very different counter-racist factions. Sometimes they fight. It must be hard on the racist skinheads to try to figure out who's who if some of the guys they're fighting are also white.

You'll probably find more non-racist skins in urban areas. Don't mistake non-racist with anti-racist. SHARPS can be just as bad as Naziskins in their violent dealings with those whom they dislike. This is not to suggest that non-racist, non-political skins aren't violent, as brawls are just part of the culture (as well as copious amounts of drinking). Hell, at this point you'll even find straight edge skins, but I doubt they're well accepted into the culture.

I had never officially considered myself a skinhead, as I was never one to conform to this or that sub-culture and adopt the label. Funny though, I was probably more a tradskin than most skinheads out there.

It started off as a coincidence, well more like a misunderstanding by my "peers". Fashion wise, the only thing I had adopted from the skinhead culture were the rolled up jeans/pants. I still sport that even now.
