I've had the following happen (in a coffee shop line most recently):

H - Lovely weather lately.
Me - Yes, its been very pleasant.
H - Wow, you have a beautiful smile! Do you come here often?
Me - Thank you. Actually, not very. I'm just off work today doing some shopping for my son's birthday...
H - (glances for the ring) Oh, well I hope he has a good birthday...
Me - Yes, he will. Well, its my turn to order next. Very nice speaking to you--have a lovely day!

At that point, I turn away. BUT if I had been interested... the guys opening was after I mentioned the weather and/or that I do come here often. BTW, he was a nice looking paramedic. He caught my eye again as I was leaving the shop from the back of his ambulance.

Just be kind & friendly guys. The girl will respond if she is interested and/or available.

Exactly. And its completely inoffensive, you don't have to be artificially clever, etc. And its elegant, b/c it leave a beautiful opening for 'escape' if there's a lack of interest for whatever reason.

Any guy who can't do this, is far too immature to be of interest (to me anyway).
