fire fighters do a wonderful service. my grandfather was a firefighter and my uncle has been doing it for 30 years or so. those people risk their lives and have a very dangerous job.
plus they're fun to look at.
baby ya hustle. but me i hustle harder.
Well the physical test consisted of ....
dragging a 160 lb dummy approximately 60 ft (around two pillars)
running up and down stadium steps carrying a 20 lb bag of weights
carrying two chop saws (one in each hand) approximately 60/70 ft and placing them on a waist high table without dropping them
raising/lowering a fully charged fire extinguisher 1 story up onto a 1'x1' square
dragging a fire hose 50 ft, dropping to one knee, and then dragging the 50 ft past the line that you stopped at
and finally running through a waist high tunnel in the dark and doubling back through (read: running in a crouched position or on all fours)
Oh yeah, and you're timed, and you cannot run, and when I did the actual test they fitted me with a 50 lb vest to do all of those same things in (which equated to running up and down the stadium steps with 75 lbs).

Plus the muscle comes in handy when you're rescuing people from burning buildings whether they be fat drunk guys or scantily clad hot women that were sleeping when the fire started. I'll definitely be taking my fire suit home if I decide to take the job. Its just a matter of who will get to see me in it. I'll definitely be putting out a fire when that happens, after I start one..

rawr! you're a handsome fellow! I guess I can now vote in sonrisa's poll. haha
seriously, though ... you should sell access to your arms to nursing school students. They need arms like yours to practice IV starts, and I could hit your vein from across a room with a dart!
FYI - I know a lot of firemen and cops in my line of work, and firemen love their jobs. They also love nurses. Half my class was dating one fireman or another. haha
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?
Congrats Incognito!
I have to say, I've always imagined Incognito to look more like this
Instead of how he turned out to look
Don't cry, don't regret and don't blame
Weak find the whip, willing find freedom
Towards the sun, carry your name
In warm hands you are given
Ask the wind for the way
Uncertainty's gone, your path will unravel
Accept all as it is and do not blame
God or the Devil

You're a very good looking guy.
Why are you possibly not taking the fire fighter job?
good luck incog! i hope you get it!

Thanks for the compliment, they are always welcomed. Its like giving a starving man a ham sandwich, lol. That is funny that you mention my veins. My mother in law is a RN and she always says the same thing "what lovely veins.... I could put an 18 gauge in there". My interview is in less than an hour.

First off, thanks for the compliment. I never get them at home, and I've worked hard to look the way I do.
Well right now I am a construction inspector. I only see my boss once a week and my regular office is off site. Getting time off is never a problem and I can do paperwork on days when the weather is bad. All of that will change as a fire fighter, plus rotating shifts, and I'd be considered "essential personnel", so no staying home during blizzards. I have a few other questions for them too that will determine my ultimate decision.

i think you should determine if this will be more self-satisfying than your current position? sounds like your current position is pretty lax and easy...but sorta boring. the firefighter job might be a bit more demanding and take up more of your time and energy, but it might be worth it in the long run because you'll feel more valuable/needed...the job might be more satisfying.
how does the salary look in comparison to what you already make...better? way better? or not as good?

I agree with red. From a pretty lax job to a more demanding 1 such as a firefighter might be a bit of a shock for you. Then again I don't know you, you just might be ready for the extra work/challenge.
Anyway...best of luck.
