1) I am kind of lenient about swearing. My kids are not allowed to swear at all around other adults because I try to teach them to be respectful of the fact that it can be offensive to other people, and everyone should feel obligated to not be unnecessarily offensive. However, in my house, the kids are allowed to use minor swear words - damn, hell, ass, bitch - as long as they aren't calling each other names. F*ck, c*nt, nigger, and words of that nature are considered major swear words and are always off limits.
2.) I don't believe it is EVER appropriate to spank a baby. EVER. People who spank a baby for acting like a baby should have their children taken away. Babies stop crying when they have mastered language and can ask for what it is they need.
I don't really condone spanking bigger kids, either. There are more effective tools for teaching a child how to behave.
