True. But I'd bet my entire retirement fund on the fact that if I throw a ball in the air it will, eventually, find its way back to ground.

Not if it gets stuck on the roof, extinguished by a nuclear explosion or is taken from the roof to a space shuttle and ends up in space

    Ugh, not another religious thread.

Can't we all just agree to disagree and get along? This topic has been beaten to DEATH on here over the years and it always ends up going the same way.......nowhere.

+1 What can I say? Religion is usually the salvation of people and sometimes the doom of people. It's up to you.

(and I am one of those catholics who go to mass every Sunday and even sing in the choir, and run a catechesis)

    I don't.

But only because I know I'm smarter than them all.

All in all...does religion really matter? Believe what you want. I'm a catholic, I don't care what anyone else believes. I'm going to live my life to the best and try to be the best person I can be. There will always be people on one extreme saying how their way is the right way.

But really, it doesn't matter. Just respect others, even if they don't respect you. Be the better person, and it shouldn't matter.

It can be, there's just less incentive for doing so. The thought that we're all part of a higher plan and all of our actions are watched / judged by a divine force in the end makes it easier to be humble.

You don't need incentive though. To compare myself now, as someone whose religion is based on personal philosophies, some of which were developed through the concepts of larger religions, such as Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, and whatever, yet does not believe in a creator, or a divine being watching me, to myself as a Lutheran Christian, I would say I am a better person. I am nicer, more considerate, more open minded, more polite, and the list goes on. But that is not because I am no longer a Christian. I do not blame Christianity for that. In fact, I am thankful that I was introduced to religion the way I was. But I always had trouble believing some things. I did not agree with some of the moral things. I did not believe people should live by commandments. I didn't know if the afterlife existed, it all seemed too materialistic, and I came to all sorts of conclusions on it. I am not saying that this is right or wrong, but it is what I have come to understand, should you accept that or not.

The reason I am the way I am, is because that is the way I truly want to be. It is not because I follow commandments, or am scared by any religious consequences.

But there is nothing wrong with Christianity.... as long as you aren't subduing yourself from mitigating inner conflicts.
