most koreans don't date out of their race due to religious ideas and different cultural background. however, if you feel that there may be a possibility between you two, don't let this get between the two of you. ask him and find out for yourself. there is no better way to get a definite answer than to approach him directly. otherwise, you'll only be left assuming and thinking about the "what ifs."

Actually he is not straight from Korea, but he stayed there before high school. Thus his cultural identity was largely fixed by that time.

I think if he is pretty traditional, he may be put off by a direct approach. In my experience, many Asian cultures are bound to their sense of modesty.

Surely his parents have made clear their dating preferences by now, as I am sure yours have. Maybe you can try something like "oh, my friend from China is having some dating issues because her parents want her to date only Chinese. Is this a first-generation thing? Are your parents the same way?"

Hey taxiskycrazy, race is a barrier anyone can jump over. My partner has never dated anyone outside his race, and never thought he would, before me. So flirt on! If he doesn't like you, it's not because of the fact you're Chinese.
