Just finished "Child 44", and will be moving to part two of the trilogy soon.

"Child 44" is a detective novel in the stalinist ussr, a society so perfect where murder does not exist (in theory).

    It is an excellent book.

After reading something like 60 books last year, I haven't been able to get into anything since February.

I have been reading a lot about gardening recently because my vege patch last year wasn't as productive as I would have liked. I have a pile of gardening books on the kitchen table that I flick between and cross reference frequently. I hated school and was very bad at it so this kind of study is odd and fun for me.

For my birthday I received a copy of Larousse Gastronomique. Thoroughly enjoying flicking through that! It is the bible of the cooking world and I am so glad to own it.

Otherwise I am reading The Celestine Prophecy again and I'm slowly ploughing my way through Ben Elton's Past Mortem. I usually love Ben Elton but he's not doing it for me this time.

    Any Tom Robbins readers here?

I'm just reading your posts. After recently reading the first five books of the Game of Thrones series, I'm burned out on reading for the moment. That was something like 4,500 pages in six weeks.

I attacked that series last year, I think I knocked it over in about 4 weeks though (the joy of being a stay at home mum and a ravenous reader). I will admit the house fell to shit in that time because I spent all my time lost in that world. When I got to the end of the 5th book I actually told my best friend rather sternly to never ever lend me an unfinished series again. She has just started the new book and I am scared I am going to be horribly disappointed.

The fifth book is the new book. It was enjoyable, though very dark at times. Not quite as good as Storm of Swords though. Ramsey turns out to be the nastiest villain in the whole series.
