1984 - George Orwell

Has anyone had the pleasure of reading this seemingly good book? (Currently on page 209) haha. If yes, what do you think and do you have any recomendations on other distopian related books. BTW, noone mention "handmaids tale" I seriously think that book sucks.

I've read this book. Also "Animal Farm" by Orwell also. Both good. If you like this genre of book, try Huxley's "Brave New World", which I thought was better than 1984.

YES! 1984 is my second favorite book that I have ever read, and it is right next to Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. What 1984 expresses directly in a "hit you hard" sort of way with his descriptions of what was going on, Brave New World is more subtle. But I think that to people like you, Kiechi, who already thoroughly enjoy 1984, Brave New World will be stunning. The two books are very, very comparable in my book. I must say that Brave New World barely edges out 1984, though. Both masterpieces.

Haven't read any Ayn Rand, although a friend suggested I read Anthem. My favorite is actually Brave New World. The distopia type books are my favorite; I have also heard that We and Things Fall Apart are other good ones in this 'genre'.

Other favorite books wide greatly in terms of content. I like The Great Gatsby, Fahrenheit 451 (and Martian Chronicles also, another by Ray Bradbury), Jane Eyre (probably number 3 on my list), Of Mice and Men... Hamlet also. Those are the ones that come to mind right now. And you, indigo?

Hmm. Well, I got away from the 1984/BNW ilk quite a few years ago. You might like Orson Scott Card's "Folk of the Fringe", which is of this sort. So is Anthem, kinda, tho you might like CJ Cherryh's "Wave Without a Shore" better. My tastes REALLY vary, tho, some of my other fiction faves would be Dune & books from the Sharpe series... but this really depends on my mood...

They definitely change a few things.

I like the book's story better, you should read it. It's not long only about 200 pages or so.
