    English language help needed, please!

Hi. I'm doing some exercises and I got stuck on this one. I'd be grateful for any ideas.

Complete the second sentence so that it has a similar meaning to the first sentence, using the word given. Do not change the word given. You must use between two and five words, including the word given.

    Here is an example:

    1. You must do exactly what the manager tells you.
    CARRY
    You must ....................................... instructions exactly.
    CARRY OUT THE MANAGER'S

    2. Marcella left home very early because she wanted to be sure of catching the train.
    ORDER
Marcella left home very early...................................... miss the train.

My idea is: Marcella left home very early IN ORDER TO MAKE SURE SHE WOULDN'T miss the train. (but I am using more than five words and this isn't right)

    3. Jack found it difficult to control his skies on the steep slope.
    UNDER
Jack found it difficult to ............................................ on the steep slope.

Have no idea about this one!

I'd say "keep his balance under control," but otherwise, I agree with Searock. xD

Yep, you're right both of you, Searock and Rowen

The solution for number 2 is ''in order not to'' and for number 3 is: ''get/keep/have his skies under control''.
How comes your English is sooo good, Searock? One could very well say that you're native. If not, you're definitely bilingual

Thanks ^_^! I lived abroad for a few years as a child, in an english-speaking environment, so I learned english at a really young age, almost like a second mother tongue: I never had to "study" it, it just comes natural to me. I was lucky :-). Your english is really good too btw, if it weren't for the flag I would've thought you were native too :-).
