Here is a poem I wrote based on a study I did of that passage of scripture.
I love you! Do I truly love you?
Yes, I tell you I love you,
But when we disagree,
I end up arguing with you,
So if I love you, where is my self-control of my emotions?
Yes I tell you I love you,
But if you need help,
I can't be bothered to help you,
So if I love you, where is my usefulness in your life?
Yes, I tell you I love you,
But when your day is tough and your dreams are crushed,
I may laugh, or worse be indifferent towards you,
So if I love you, where is my emotional supporting of you?
Yes, I tell you I love you,
And I compliment and flirt with you,
But my coquette's aren't exclusively for you,
So if I love you, where is my loyalty towards you?
Yes, I tell you I love you,
But when Rumor and Gossip come around,
I allow them to plant seeds of seperation in the garden of my heart,
So if I love you, where is my persevearance and confidence to confront things head on?
Yes, I tell you I love you
But when you've done something wrong or said something hurtful,
The way I treat you wavers on how good you've treated me
So if I love you, where is the unconditionalness of my love?
Yes, I tell you I love you,
But when you are honest with me,
I hide my hurts, lies or deceits,
So if I love you, where is my transparency?
Yes, I tell you I love you,
But this is just an emotion,
Superficial and easily manipulated,
So if, I love you...where is my true love seen?
Yes, I thought I loved you,
But now I see,
True Love is way more than this fleeting emotion,
Because True Love can be seen.
