Actually, sort of, no joke. This is how it works: parents are too overwhelmed by work and let their kids play video games all day and night. Sometimes they still learn about friendships through it and turn out normal..that is not the usual case, though.

Awww, I think she's just excited. It's cool. We're all rooting for LR.

So puns, A-OK? And how will I know if a girl wants me to approach, anyway? Having never been thought attractive enough to desire being approached by, I don't think I'd recognize a prospect...

Yes, provided she's the type that appreciates them... and if you like puns, you don't want one that doesn't... so that's a good primary litmus test.

Puns early on are risky. If you are certain she's intelligent then go for an easy quip. But if she is smart, but not the sort to 'get it' you might end up making her feel insecure. I have this problem w/jokes, for example. I don't always get them, mostly b/c I don't watch television and miss many of the cultural references.

Remember, your goal is to make her comfortable. NOT to show off how smart you are.

That's an excellent point. I generally miss cultural references too, as I don't watch TV either.

I do think a good pun (if there is such a thing) is a good compatibility test, though.

From the other thread - the one you wouldn't even try on after two sentences.

Hi there , thanks! Actually I haven't yet read Russell, but I'm thinking about it. Most of my exposure to philosophy comes from a course I had to take last semester on Ethics. Kant, Mill... means to an end, or not, that sort of thing. Do you recommend him?
Yes (or no, whichever) I would (wouldn't) recommend Russell... If you're really interested, would you like to discuss it over coffee?

    BOOM! DONE!

What have you got against it? It's pretty damn solid. Worked on your mom, IIRC

Meet up for something else, say, for ice cream? Frankly, I don't drink coffee either and if this was some ploy to get me to jump through hoops, I'd have to ditch my attempt to pick up the broad.

Then she wouldn't be looking at the book, now would she?

She might have liked the cover, the title is intriguing or brings about a fit of deja vu..trying to look interested to avoid/draw attention..

Yes, exactly this, it's that simple and would have gotten an "I'd like that." (or not, but you've got an answer).

@HIA sorry I missed the Thanks window. I know you're devastated.
