Eh, if they weren't stupid, those people would quit not looking for jobs or misappropriating welfare money..

    "Free" is Socialist/Communist BS.
Because we have to chase him. Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight.

Boisdevie - I think the issue is that Americans are more willing to GET therapy. It's not so much a matter of they need it more, but they're more willing to seek help. I've talked to plenty of people on these forums from other countries that definitely needed some form of therapy.

Though I don't think you're one of them - your posts, your attitudes seem to be pretty well balanced and egalitarian - remarkably free (usually) of sexism and abusive notions.

Have you ever thought about getting therapy? I'm fearing you'll be then next stealer of your father's Muskat for the purpose of evil-doing.

Never regret anything that has happened in your life. It cannot be changed, forgotten or undone. So, take it as a lesson learned and move on.

That's me, Mister Zen. Just realised I've not called anyone a cunt for ages. The therapy must be working for me. Or is it that all the cunts have left the forum? Except LR of course.

Therapy can be helpful for those who 'don't know what they don't know' or benefit from learning of the struggle of others (group therapy).

In less socially-isolating times, people didn't need therapy b/c there were bars, knitting circles and families who would help each other by listening and giving good advice.

I haven't had therapy but I have done counselling. TBH, its not that useful. People have to want change, for themselves and if you are intelligent with some willpower, you can generally achieve these changes without the help of a shrink. Most of whom, at least the psych-sorts I've met, seem to have as many or more problems as the people they are trying to help.

Why do you think you need therapy, Bois? You sound sensible to me. I'd thank your first post if I could, btw.
Second thoughts can generally be amended with judicious action; injudicious actions can seldom be recovered with second thoughts.

This thread is about people with no psychological issue such as depression, bipolar disorder, etc.? Just to make sure. 'Cause in those cases, I think therapy is definitely useful.

What's the difference between therapy and counselling?

Il faut comprendre la mentalité americaine pour bien voir la connexion entre la societé ici et les besoins thérapeutiques.

Here, we have a culture that's very... isolated. We have a lot of violence and paranoia. L'argent, c'est la première priorité dans la vie ici. Most people form their political opinions based on self-defense and fear. Par example:

-Gays shouldn't be allowed to marry, because I'm not gay.
-Gun control is bad, because the government will take my guns et je vais pas pouvoir me défendre.
-Don't take my Jesus away from me. We're a Christian nation.
-Teach creationism in the science class, because it's what I believe.

It's not hard to see the pattern. La mentalité ici est composé entièrement de la paranoia, la défense, et exclut des opinions qui serrent à aider le groupe entier. Everything is self-centered, because you can't trust anyone.

Et si il n'y a personne à qui tu peux faire confience, il reste qui ? Most people here have very small groups of friends, compared to Europe. Every time I go to the Netherlands to hang out with my other socially awkward programmer friends, I'm surprised by how people are so close.

Another example: here, in America, during any sort of celebration, there's one part of the city where the fireworks are on display. Everyone gathers together and watches that single area. En Europe, par contre, the entire city lights fireworks in celebration together.

I'm convinced that when your social interactions go down, anxiety and depression increase. (The US has a major problem with this.)

And when you feel alone in the world with nobody else to trust, it's a good thing therapists are around. Because if they don't behave in a trustworthing manner, they could lose their job.
