email them with a 'personal' message to come back to the new, improved forum. highlight the features and give examples of current (non-stupid) threads people are getting help with. try constant contact or some such. some will delete, but a fraction will come back.
Second thoughts can generally be amended with judicious action; injudicious actions can seldom be recovered with second thoughts.

Unfortunately this is what happens to forums like this......they only come here to get their question answered, then they have no use for it afterwards.
