After 4 years she ended it , pretty much because I was taking her for granted towards the end. I tried to convince her to change her mind to no avail. But I still have hope in my heart. Is it better for me to disappear from her life and hope she misses me? Or is it better for me to send her a message asking for forgiveness and for another chance?

I say be direct and ask for forgiveness just ONCE and leave it at that. Tell her what you want specifically and see what she says. If she is not interested anymore, then let it go, but if she is, well, then there you go. Problem solved. Communication is key here,
